[] Experience commissioning protection and excitation systems for small hydro refurbishment. The Oldman River Hydro plant, jointly owned by ATCO and the PIkanee nation was first commissioned in 10/2003. The refurbishment after two decades presented certain challenges related to outdated protection settings, lack of protection philosophy from the client side, non-existent protection logic diagram and differences between onsite relay logic and the recommendations made in the study. About the Speaker: [] Omer Idrees is a Saudi-born, U.S. educated engineer registered in three Canadian provinces and is currently based out of Montreal. He works as a Protection & Control engineer for ANDRITZ Canada Inc and is also leading the global grid stability initiative for ANDRITZ Hydro GmBH (Austria). He also has significant experience as an entrepreneur in Saudi Arabia, the Nordics, and the UAE where he helped run a family engineering business and a tech startup.
