IEEE PES Lecture: Concepts, Operational challenges and Importance of HIL testing for Microgrid Systems

September 12, 2024 @ 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

[] In this current age where renewable energy resources are penetrating into the distribution systems, the need of understanding the concepts and operational challenges of deploying microgrids is imperative. IEEE PES Orange County section is taking this initiative of keeping the industry and academia aware of the latest challenges in this field. As a first, in a series of several lectures in the coming months, our guest speaker from EdgeTunePower Inc., Dr. Arman Ghasaei, will be giving us an overview of the microgrids in general, followed up with some of the pressing issues with microgrids. At the end of the presentation there will be a demo with of a microgrid system with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setup. About the Speaker: [] Arman Ghasaei is the visionary Founder and Chief Technology Officer of EdgeTunePower Inc. (ETP), where his leadership has been instrumental in positioning the company as a technical powerhouse in the energy industry. Arman received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2020 and founded EdgeTunePower Inc. (ETP) immediately after completing his Ph.D. program. With a deep commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions, Arman has guided ETP through a series of groundbreaking projects that have set new standards in the field. One of the most notable achievements under his direction is the successful interconnection of a utility-scale Battery-Energy-Storage-System (BESS), a project that played a critical role in establishing Canada’s first Net-Zero Energy (NZE) microgrid community. This pioneering initiative not only highlights ETP’s technical capabilities but also underscores Arman’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future. Arman’s expertise extends beyond just technical implementation; he is also deeply involved in strategic planning and innovation, ensuring that ETP remains at the cutting edge of the energy sector. His work continues to have a transformative impact, as he leads ETP in developing solutions that address the complex challenges of modern energy systems. Through his unwavering commitment and forward-thinking approach, Arman Ghasaei is driving ETP’s mission to lead the way in the transition to clean, reliable, and sustainable energy.
