NFIC 2015 : The Ecosystems of Smart Grid – the public and the personal
Location: David Packard Electrical Engineering Building (Auditorium)* Stanford University
The emerging alliance of information technology and power delivery is revolutionizing the way electric power is generated, delivered and consumed. Since its invention over a hundred years ago the humble electric grid has evolved into a complex entity with large centralized power generation plants, long distance transmission via a vast network of distributed power stations and an array of power controls and transformers to balance demand and generation. Now information technology is poised to make communications an integral part of this mix adding a bevy of new capabilities aimed at making the electric grid smart and efficient. The smart grid of the 21st century will support long-term sustainability while increasing the quality of life for generations to come.
The NFIC-2015 conference will explore this emerging “smart grid” landscape with a view to educate and inform attendees. It contains: a tutorial on Smart Grid, a keynote from former Public Utilities Commissioner Dian Grueneich, and two expert panels on the private and public aspects of Smart Grid respectively.
