Abstract:
The “Edge” is exploding all around us! According to Gartner, the global market for edge computing is expected to grow to $6.7 billion by 2022, up from about $1.5 billion in 2017. This unbridled growth is presenting significant opportunities, and challenges, for enterprises and service providers.

Digital Transformation is top-of-mind with most CxOs.  Either they rapidly innovate to take advantage of the massive edge computing opportunity, or they quickly get left behind.  But, the challenge of innovation lies not only in the technology, but also in the transformation of existing IT tools, processes, resources and organizations.

The scope, scale and complexity of edge computing bring new levels of challenges to digital transformation. While edge computing devices are becoming more and more powerful, they still lack all the resources they will need to deliver real-time OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) applications for autonomous vehicles, Industrial IoT, smart buildings, video surveillance/processing, immersive experiences and augmented reality for retail to name a few.  On top of that, the massive amounts of data edge computing will produce has to be dealt with in terms of analytics, learning, security and data sovereignty.

The question now becomes not “how do I scale up?”, but rather “how do I scale out and scale across to get the right resources, in the right amount, at the right place, at the right time?” A new breed of Edge clouds is rapidly emerging to enable digital transformation to reach beyond traditional public and hybrid clouds. In this session, CPLANE.ai will discuss their insights and perspectives into the rapidly growing edge cloud market, including several industry use cases.  They will also share some of the challenges of delivering resources in a hyper-distributed cloud model while maintaining an integrated end-to-end service continuum. Then they will discuss how they are using their novel approach to intelligent closed-loop orchestration and automation to help customers move from traditional “clouds for humans” to “clouds for machines” for edge computing. • Robert Keahey

Before joining CPLANE.ai , Robert was Partner and Founder of SummaLogic LLC, an IT and business consultancy that specializes in business and technology strategy, marketing and product development across a variety of business and technology sectors. As Vice President, Industry Solutions and CTO at Cordys US, Inc. he directed the development of industry and technology solutions for Cordys’ high performance BPMS platform.

Prior to his role at Cordys Robert was Director of Information Technology Outsourcing Architecture and Innovation Centers at Electronic Data Systems (EDS), partnering with industry-leading technology providers to create EDS’ three-year strategic technology roadmap. Robert held many other leadership and industry-related roles at EDS, including the development of EDS’ global networking and web hosting capabilities. Robert has a BS degree in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana.

• John Casey

John contributes over 20 years of deep technology leadership to CPLANE.ai. His proven success with a variety of technical leadership roles in Telecom, Enterprise and Government and in software design and development provide the foundation for the system architecture and engineering team.

Previously John led worldwide deployment teams for both IBM’s Software Group and Narus, Inc. His work in large scale, high performance system design at Transarc Labs and Walker Interactive Systems brings industry and technical experience to the CPLANE.ai product suite.
