Abstract
Deep Dive Into Android App Development tutorial is a fast-paced hands-on introduction to Android app development for those already proficient in Java. By the end of this tutorial, you should understand how to go about building a very simple Android app.
During the tutorial, we’ll develop a working Twitter-like application capable of posting status updates to the cloud as well as pulling the data from the cloud so we can see what our friends are up to. Along the way, you will learn about main building blocks that make up an Android app, such as activities, services, provides and receivers. We’ll focus on UI by building couple of screens and services to process background network tasks. You will also learn about concurrency issues in Android. During this tutorial, you will get to experience building an app from the ground up. You will get to see how Android tools work, and how to use the tools to develop, and debug the application.
Deep Dive Into Android App Development tutorial assumes basic understanding of Java. If you plan to follow along during the presentation, you should first download the Android Development Tools Bundle from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html.
Speaker Bio
Marko is the director of Twitter University where he helps educate Twitter engineers on the cutting edge Android and other technologies. Prior to selling Marakana to Twitter, Marko was the developer of Marakana Android Training series. He has taught Android to 1,000+ developers at companies such as Cisco, Intel, Motorola, Qualcomm, HTC, Sharp, US Department of Defense and many others.
Marko is the author of Learning Android book published by O’Reilly Media. This book is based on Android Bootcamp and incorporates best learning practices for new developers to start creating applications for this exciting open source mobile platform.
Marko frequently speaks at conferences and events such as OSCON, AnDevCon, DroidCon, IEEE, ACM, and many others. He lives in San Francisco, California.
