Sept 17, 2009

Our speaker was Dr David Su (Atheros Communications), and the topic of his presentation was “Designing CMOS wireless System-on-a-chip

Abstract:
This talk describes the design of CMOS system-on-a-chip for wireless communications.  RF transceiver building blocks for signal amplification, frequency translation, and frequency selectivity are examined with emphasis on low noise amplifiers and power amplifiers.  The advantages and challenges of radio system-on-chip integration, in particular, those related to the presence of both analog and digital circuits on the same integrated circuits, are also discussed.

Bio:
David Su is the VP of Analog/RF Engineering at Atheros Communications, engaging in the design of CMOS wirelessSoC. Prior to joining Atheros, he worked at Hewlett-Packard Company designing CMOS mixed-signal/RF ICs.   Dr. Su is also a consulting professor at Stanford University. He has been an ISSCC technical program member and served as an JSSC associate editor.  He holds a Ph.D. E.E. from Stanford University as well as MS and BS degrees from theUniversity of Tennessee, Knoxville.
