IEEE Santa Clara Valley Chapter
Nov. 17, 2005
Our speaker was Dr. Floyd M. Gardner (Independent Engineering Consultant), and the topic of his presentation was “PLL History: A Personal Viewpoint”
Abstract
Dr. Floyd Gardner has worked with phaselock loops since the late 1950s. A PLL, unimaginably exotic in those early days, has become a standard item, familiar today to most electronics engineers. Dr. Gardner will reminisce over the evolution of PLLs as seen through his own experiences. He will discuss how emphasis has changed from the extremely narrow-band systems of years ago to the wide-band applications of today. Key inventions and technology improvements will be reviewed.
Biography
Dr. Gardner, a Fellow of the IEEE, has been an independent consulting engineer since 1960. He is the author of Phaselock Techniques (recently issued in an expanded third edition), of Simulation Techniques, and of numerous articles in the professional journals.
