IEEE WIE logoQWISE_Logo_colorIEEE-SCV WIE and Qualcomm-WISE invite you to attend:

Being a Female Engineer can be your Greatest Advantage

Speaker: Susanne Paul PhD, Senior Director of Technology at Qualcomm

When: Thursday August 11,  2016, 6:00-8:00 pm

Where: Qualcomm,  SCL Cafe (Building B) 3165 Kifer Rd, Santa Clara

This talk introduces a model that groups the mental characteristics of people into four categories. Differences between the brains of men and women can result in differences in their natural engineering styles. Engineering, having been dominated by males for decades, has evolved to value the male norm rather than to find benefit in a diversity of styles. Women’s divergence from this norm may be a little-recognized factor contributing to gender disparity in the field. Yet women’s most valuable benefit comes from their unique perspective and their complementary traits, which can enable well-rounded teams that work in a synergistic way. This talk proposes that women would achieve greater success if the engineering community understood the value of, embraced and nurtured, and better leveraged their strengths. It is my hope with this presentation to provide female engineers with a better foundational understanding of themselves, their natural strengths and weaknesses, how they work in teams, and actions that they can take to maximize their success in the field.
