Josh Wardle’s free, online game Wordle is a 2022 viral phenomenon. Wordle challenges players to figure out a five-letter English word within six guesses. Wrong guesses give players clues to help figure out the answer. Wordle has one game, one word per day. It’s a simple, wake-me-up-during-coffee puzzle.

Word-gamers, linguists, and computer nerds all discuss best strategies. A Computer Science degree isn’t necessary to up one’s game, however. Basic tools found or readily installable on most modern desktops can improve guessing and enhance the fun. This presentation looks at solving Wordle with just these basic tools, a little know-how, and a little creativity. Come play!
