Summary:
HawkEye 360 was the first company to supply global satellite geolocation of radio frequency (RF) signals commercially. This capability is especially effective for the detection of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Several satellite constellations monitor the locations of vessels via their Automated Information System (AIS) broadcasts, but vessels intent on illegal activity often turn off those devices. Detecting and precisely locating RF signals like commercial marine radars, satellite communications devices, and Marine VHF push-to-talk radios provides new insight into vessel activities. Supported by real-world examples, Richard Holmquist from HawkEye 360 will describe the RF geolocation technology and how it complements AIS, SAR, and other remote sensing tools to locate βdarkβ vessels for the purpose of IUU-F detection.
