Summary:
We should not count on the readily available electricity supply, gas, mobile communications, water, and food during disasters. Yet, our survival and escape plans take most of these for granted. In this talk, Ross Kocen shares his reflections from being first on the scene as disasters strike, discusses unforeseen challenges faced by businesses, families, and individuals during catastrophic times, and invites us to re-engineer our strategies to support business continuity daily life.
Bio: Ross Kocen, NREMT, BSEE, MBA Course Director First on Scene Training, is on the board of BICEPP (Business Industry Council for Emergency Planning and Preparedness); he is the President of the Valley Coastal Chapter of the ASSP (American Society of Safety Professionals). He has been a National Registry EMT (NREMT) since 2004. In addition to the medical training, he has completed the NAEMSE 40-hour Instructor Course. Since college, Ross has been involved in pre-hospital care when he worked on Fire Rescue Squad for Bridgehampton Raceway. He completed an intensive Fire/Rescue course in extrication. Ross is a third-party provider of health & safety courses from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and Emergency Safety Care Institute. Ross is a PADI Rescue Diver and an active member of Ventura County Medical Reserve Corp. and the Thousand Oaks DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team).
