Summary:
Management Forum / Guided Networking: Bring Your Management Challenge; Arrive by 6:30 PM to join this exciting Management Forum. Following informal networking is a guided discussion typically related to the topic of the evening’s after dinner talk, or of general Technology Management interest.
Light Dinner: This month we’re continuing with our light dinner format — typically sandwiches, salad, drinks, and cookie or similar light dinner.
 
Presentation: Total System Innovation Management: An Overview with Applications to Ideation and Services
This presentation will introduce the concept of Total-System Innovation Management, which emphasizes both a total-system perspective of the innovation management process and a disciplined systematic approach to the development of the individual key elements of the process. These key elements of the innovation process include Creative Idea Generation, Seeking and Providing Initial Support, Team Formation and Organization Development, Product or Service Development and Marketing, External Competition and Cooperation, and Ethical Considerations. We will briefly discuss the applications of the total-system approach to the key element of Creative Idea Generation as well as to the field of Service Innovation.

Bio:
Dr. Oliver Yu, President of the STARS Group, is an expert on technology innovation and resource strategy planning. He is also an Executive in Residence and Adjunct Professor at San Jose State University, and a Consulting Associate Professor at Stanford. In 2014, he is invited to be a Visiting Professor on Asian Business Innovation Strategy at Kyushu University in Japan.

Prior to founding STARS in 2000, Dr. Yu was Director, Energy and Technology Strategies, at SRI International from 1989 to 2000, managing technology strategy projects worldwide. Before SRI, he was for 15 years Planning Manager at Electric Power Research Institute, responsible for energy industry analysis and Institute-wide research planning.

Dr. Yu holds a PhD from Stanford, and has published over 80 papers and 5 technical books, including Technology Portfolio Planning and Management by Springer. He is currently Vice Chair of the Silicon Valley Chapter of the IEEE Technology Management Council.

2014 CHAPTER OFFICER ELECTION NOTICE

 
2014 Chapter Elections at the February 6, 2014 meeting

  • The Technology Management Council Chapter of Santa Clara Valley / San Francisco will hold our officer elections at the February 6, 2014 chapter meeting.
  • There are four officer positions: Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary.
  • Those interested in running for any of the officer positions, or volunteering with the chapter in another capacity, are invited to make their nomination or interest known in person at the December 5th TMC dinner meeting to the Chair or Secretary.
  • Alternatively please submit nominations by January 15th to the current Chair or Secretary. Nominations should include name, the office, a daytime email address, and a daytime phone number. Interest in volunteering in another capacity is also welcome.
  • Officer candidates must be an IEEE member as well as a member of one or more of the Member Societies at the time of the election to be able to hold an officer position. Volunteer positions are open to everyone.
  • Nominees who accept candidacy will be invited to the January 25th IEEE Officer Training. Nominees who are undecided will be invited to the Officer Training on a space avaiablle basis. Space is usually available.
