Presentation: Silicon Valley leaders Share Their Creativity Insights

Susan will share the content of a 2014 Creativity Insights White Paper based on interviews conducted with Silicon Valley leaders in 2013 and 2014. This is the first report of  an on-going study.
The project was inspired by IBM Global CEO Studies in 2010 and 2012 that reported creativity was the most sought after attribute for leaders and was an essential attribute for employees’ success for the next several years. In the same time frame, a 2011 Towers-Watson survey reported that 65% of corporate employees were “disengaged,” meaning employees didn’t think they had the tools, resources, and support to do their jobs effectively nor an environment that actively supported their physical, emotional, and interpersonal well being. According to a Gallup study, disengagement increased to 70% in 2012. And, according to LinkedIn, the most common buzzword in profiles in 2011 and 2012 was “creative.”
The IBM studies were global, and it wasn’t clear that Silicon Valley executives shared the same global concerns, especially since Silicon Valley is considered a hotbed of creativity.   The purpose of the study was to:
  • Inquire about the state of creativity in a sample of Silicon Valley companies.
  • See if engagement issues surfaced in the discussions around creativity.
  • Get insight into possible disconnects around creativity between leaders and employees.
Susan will share the responses of study participants and her conclusions, recommendations, and a call to action
