This talk will highlight perils and pitfalls that surround us, as we make decisions, and present techniques for minimizing the impact of inherent sources of errors. We cannot get away from the fact that the decision we make impact our personal and professional lives. Recent advances in the area of decision-making have demonstrated that – in the age of bid data, we cannot rely on commonsense alone, for reaching optimum decisions. This is a unique opportunity for you to:
- Understand the perils & pitfalls of decision-making, and,
- See how we can reinforce our commonsense with analytical techniques.
Once you gain a thorough understanding of the factors that impact the decisions you make, you will know how to compensate for biases, both internal, and environmental, and use techniques that ensure you arrive at optimal decisions.
Speaker: Dr. Errol Wiraisnghe, President, Shanmar Inc.
Dr. Errol Wiraisnghe, spent 37 years are a Research Scientist, Univ. Professor, and Oil & Gas Engineer/Consultant. Then in 2001, changed careers to focus on “Decision-Making” (training and consulting). Among his clients are: Shell Oil Co.; The US Navy; Wal-Mart, Technip, General Dynamics, Applied Materials, AREVA, to name a few. He was honored by the Society of Petroleum Engineers as one of their 2009-10 Distinguish Lecturers. An internationally recognized expert on decision-making, Errol has written two books, developed two software products; and also developed an online course, and conducts classroom workshops all of which addressing the thorny problem of decision-making.
