Chaos, Order, and Everything in Between – Leading Projects Silicon Valley-Style

Project Management has been a well established profession for many years. Yet, the perception of what it means exactly, how to implement it, and what the project manager’s role is, are surprisingly varied. Even today, many professionals, executives, and organizations misunderstand this discipline and role.

In this presentation, we will review several typical company settings and how they implement project management. From chaotic still called “projects”, to “military-grade” process and discipline. From heavy Waterfall, to lightweight Agile. What does it mean to manage projects in these settings and what does it take to be successful? We will pay special attention to the human aspects of project management, as these are the actors that really make the difference. The speaker will provide examples from his many years of experience in a variety of companies, such as Sun Microsystems, Nokia, Walmart and, lately, Google.
