Metal-halide perovskites: The next evolution in photovoltaics

Abstract: Perovskite-based photovoltaics represent the culmination of the decades-long promise of solution-processed and organic photovoltaics. Boasting earth-abundant materials, low manufacturing costs, and lab-scale efficiencies similar to most commercial PV technologies, the perovskite is poised to reinvigorate the PV industry, especially when used in tandem with existing technologies. If remaining obstacles to commercialization can be overcome, the perovskite will be the largest single technological leap in PV since the Siemens process was invented while the first modern solar cells were being made. Bio: Colin is a co-founder of Iris Photovoltaics commercializing perovskite tandems along with Prof. Mike McGehee. Colin published seminal papers on both mechanically-stacked and monolithic perovskite tandems during his PhD in materials science at Stanford University. He has won numerous awards for his work, most recently being named to the Forbes 30 under 30 in Energy in 2016 and becoming part of the Cyclotron Road program.
