Phoenix Section PACE Chair

The Professional Activities Chair, (PACE Chair) promotes, organizes and conducts professional activities that enhance the status of technical professionals and their success. Focus is placed on the professional needs of the members by working with Affinity Groups, Chapters and student branches by promoting their interests and providing a forum to encourage sharing of member needs in their professional development. PACE is a broad program that addresses all IEEE and Phoenix Section non-technical activities that engage members is professional development or facilitate outreach activities such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Career Technology Education (CTE) or other activities that fall within IEEE’s fields of interest.

The PACE chair is a member of the Phoenix Op Com and will serve on the Region 6 PACE Committee.

In general, the basic responsibilities for the position include:

Create and execute a communication plan that will provide Phoenix Section members with regular information on non-technical or professional development activities that are being hosted in the section

    • Create or host professional development programs (webinars, seminars, workshops, etc.) for section members.
    • Serve as a resource for Phoenix Chapter and Branch professional development activities.
    • Plan activities in the section, chapters, affinity groups and student branches that are of interest to these groups and possibly the local community.
    • Manage PACE funding requests
    • Provide regular PACE reports to the Region 6 PACE chair and IEEE-USA PACE committee
    • Develop, coordinate and present professional programs for the local section, chapter or branch.
    • Participate at Section meetings and local events

The Communications Committee has the overall challenge of raising the community awareness of IEEE activities.The chair should have representatives from the chapters, affinity groups and chapters as committee members and regular contributors.

In general, the duties and responsibilities of the Communications Chair include:

  1. Understand the IEEE policies that relate to communications with our members and the public.
  2. Promote and coordinate the communications to our members about Phoenix Section and IEEE activities.
  1. Provide Section and IEEE related content to public print media, trade publications, other technical professional organizations, the radio and TV media, and other communications outlets.
  2. Assure content on the Section web site and social media sites is current and accurate.
  3. Encourage member participation and contributions of articles and content to the various Section communication conduits.
  4. Has access to the IEEE OU Analytics system (previously the SAMIEEE system) to enable communications to our membership using a combination of electronic and print conduits.
  5. Working with OpCom, chapter, affinity group and branch representatives, coordinate and provide member related or member interest information through the Section web page and social media channel.
  6. Periodically review member data and communicates concerns to IEEE Operations Center.
  7. Provide Phoenix Section related content to the Region 6 web master and/or the Region 6 Communications Chair.
  8. Provide regular reports to the Section OpCom that relate to the impact of Section communications activities.
