Reverberation Chamber Test Advantages for Military

and Commercial Applications

Reverberation (reverb) chambers have been used in the area of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing for a long time. With the proliferation of wireless devices in recent years, and the higher RF test levels required for military and aerospace applications, interest in the reverberation chamber test environment has increased.  This presentation will provide a review of reverberation chamber test methods and applications for commercial and military applications.  The advantages of a reverb chamber for MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 testing for optimal field strength and test speeds will be discussed. Moving on to commercial applications, a short tutorial will be provided of MIMO applications of wireless devices.  The advantages of using a reverb chamber for evaluating MIMO over the air (OTA) real world performance will be discussed.  The presentation will conclude with a review of how aerospace companies are using reverb chambers for MIMO testing, considering in-flight WI-FI, GPS and other available services.
