What are the Surface Web, Dark Web, and Darknet? Where do they fit in the big picture and how can they be accessed? If you’re in security, you habitually spot vulnerabilities when you enter an environment. If you’re an engineer you’re always curious about how things work. Are you curious about what’s true despite online propaganda, censorship, control, and deception? How might we pursue privacy despite mass surveillance, public blockchains, mind reading, and artificial intelligence?

IEEE Computer Society Life Member Dr. Bill Curd will start with an overview of the Internet, especially the Darknet, how to access, search, and navigate there. Then some threats to our privacy. And, finally, some alternative ways of thinking about controversial geopolitical events. He hopes to encourage independent thinking and whet your appetite for your own truth searching.
