It also hosts <a href=\"https:\/\/micromouse.berkie.ee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Micromouse<\/a>, the introductory robotics course based on the international IEEE competition. After multiple semesters of development, the branch has recently expanded its offerings with <a href=\"https:\/\/ape.berkie.ee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">APE (Advanced PCB Engineering)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/151tapeout.berkie.ee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EECS151T Tapeout<\/a>, a pioneering student-run tapeout course that teaches undergraduate students chip design skills in an inviting, open source environment.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”726″ img_size=”full” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Those interested in more open-ended technical projects can work on FPGA or web development with the TechOps committee, or join SEMI, a newer semiconductor-focused initiative. Students across <a href=\"https:\/\/ieee.berkeley.edu\/officers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">committees<\/a> collaborate on various outreach activities, hosting an increasing number of talks, soldering workshops, hackathon sessions, and tabling at events such as Maker Faire and Open Sauce. In addition to existing high school collaborations, the branch has expanded to support community college students and HBCUs, with many activities formalized in a new Outreach committee. The branch also <a href=\"https:\/\/ieee.berkeley.edu\/industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">connects companies<\/a> across software and hardware stacks to students through individual info sessions and larger events, such as Spring Start-Up Fair.<\/p>\n<p>Having grown IEEE’s programs with boots on the ground as a HOPE Director, co-developer of the student-run tapeout course, and enthusiastic outreach lead, it is no surprise that Elam has pushed UC Berkeley IEEE to greater heights through his leadership as Chair. This incredible event brought together 22 enthusiastic kids and parents, along with dedicated volunteers from Glad Tidings, IEEE, UC Berkeley, WorkDay, and California State University East Bay.<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n<div>Participants explored the wonders of engineering through three engaging projects:<br \/>\n\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Building a Sturdy Bridge<\/strong> \u2013 Encouraging creative problem-solving and teamwork.<br \/>\n\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Creating a Glowing LED Snowman<\/strong> \u2013 Introducing basic electronics in a fun, festive way.<br \/>\n\ud83d\udd39 <strong>Designing a Motorized Sweeping Car<\/strong> \u2013 Sparking innovation and hands-on learning.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”717″ img_size=”full” css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”716″ img_size=”full” css=””][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n<div>The workshop began with a continental breakfast to fuel our young engineers, followed by a day of learning, creativity, and collaboration.
