IEEE Young Professionals of Northern Nevada

Mike Chavez founded the IEEE Young Professionals of Northern Nevada in April 2024. Mike is a graduate of University of Nevada’s 2023 class, and a veteran of the nuclear Navy. He loves to volunteer, lit weights, and teach his five children different types of sciences.

During his Senior year at UNR he served as the Treasurer of the student section, where he encouraged the group as a whole to be more involved in volunteer opportunities. The IEEE student Section of UNR was able to complete nearly 100 hours of community service in this year.

Andy Jian Tan is a Nevada native from Mesquite, NV. He graduated class of 2024 at UNR and is currently pursuing a graduate degree.

Andy served as the student section Treasurer of IEEE his Sophomore year, and then was elected as student section chair the next two years. During his final year as section chair, Andy was able to coordinate volunteer events that were more closely related to STEM activities such as assisting a local boy scout troupe with their electronic merits badge through a soldering training event.

The Northern Nevada professional section is chaired by David Schwaderer. Without the assistance of David and his team we could not complete the items we have already completed and expect to complete in the future. From sending students to Rising Stars Conferences, to soldering supplies for Boy Scouts of America, and sending power engineers to Power & Energy Society conferences, the professional section has been at the front of the charge.
