Technologies for a Circular Economy Workshop
Technologies for a Circular Economy Workshop
Technologies for a Circular Economy A one-day hybrid workshop at SusTech 2025, sponsored by the IEEE Technical Activities’ Future Directions (https://sustech.ieee.org/) For agenda details see https://sustech.ieee.org/circular-economy NOTE: This is Workshop-only registration, the workshop is included with (https://ieee-sustech.org/). Registration includes access to the workshop, breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks. By arrangement with the (https://sustech.ieee.org/) this workshop-only registration is at no charge. Building a circular economy is becoming increasingly recognized as a means of achieving a variety of sustainability goals. From the long-term availability of natural resources, to the protection and recovery of ecosystems from global pollution, the benefits of such a system of production and consumption can be far-reaching, if implemented judiciously. This workshop will introduce the topic of circular economy and examine several areas where technological advances or scaling are needed. Expert presentations and discussion topics will include: 1. At the beginning of the economic cycle: the important topic of the availability of critical mineral resources used in electronics and battery products, including design for reuse/recycling; 2. During the manufacturing and consumption phases of the economic cycle: technologies to track components and products through, for example, “digital passports”; 3. At the end of the economic cycle: solutions for managing widespread waste and pollution, including the carbon emissions which now cripple our planet’s climate. Our aim is to expand your knowledge, build connections, and brainstorm ideas which can help the IEEE build communities and resources to develop the solutions that are urgently needed. MOVE Tech Talk – Apr 2025 – IEEE MOVE India Program
MOVE Tech Talk – Apr 2025 – IEEE MOVE India Program
IEEE MOVE Global is an emergency response program dedicated to assisting natural disaster relief efforts with short-term communication and power solutions. The program provides essential services such as internet access, mobile phone charging, and lighting to help people stay connected during disasters. When not deployed for emergency relief, IEEE MOVE Global engages in community outreach and STEM education. The IEEE MOVE India program, initiated by the IEEE India Council Region 10 in collaboration with state disaster agencies and NGOs, focuses on disaster response efforts in India. This talk will highlight MOVE India's activities, including disaster awareness and STEM workshops conducted across the country. These workshops emphasize disaster preparedness, climate change, and sustainability, aiming to educate and empower students to create a safer, more resilient future. The session will also showcase the launch of STEM kits designed to educate students about climate change and sustainability. Additionally, the talk will provide a preview of the MOVE India Truck, set to launch in 2025. This mobile vehicle, equipped with communication and power equipment, will play a key role in supporting disaster relief operations in India. Co-sponsored by: IEEE-USA MOVE Program Speaker(s): Sadhana Attavar Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/463712

Student Branches: Student Branch Chairs are invited to this meeting, for opportunities to learn more about IEEE, connect with IEEE Region 6 leaders and volunteer peers, share a brief status update on your Student Branch, and participate in the Student Design Showcase competition (see description below). IEEE Region 6 will cover the expenses for 1 student representative per Student Branch, preferably the Chair. - This includes travel cost and 1 night hotel. - If the Chair is unavailable, another representative may be appointed or selected to represent the student branch. - If students share a hotel room and commute together, more students may be acceptable, as long as the financial cost is equivalent or the same. - There are no travel grants available for the sole purpose of participating in the student competition. Student Branch Representatives are expected to attend the entirety of the meeting for volunteer leadership training. The student competition is an opportunity for the representatives to engage and continue their professional growth. Participation in the student competition is not mandatory, but highly encouraged. Student Design Showcase Competition: There is an in-person Student Design Showcase Competition where students will showcase their projects with a poster (preferably), live demo, or other digital device. Cash prizes will be available: 1st, 2nd, 3rd ($300/$200/$100), Best Technical ($100), Best Professional ($100), and People Choice Award ($100).
