Birds of a Feather: Our Favorite DIY Projects

Our Birds of a Feather (BOF) meetings are about sharing. Come and share (tell us about) your favorite hand-built project. What makes it special? Should our young engineers (or students) build it too? Are there "simple" and inexpensive projects that really show off (visualize or experience) an engineering concept?
So much of modern technology is invisible. Miniaturized into invisibility. Are there projects that bring concepts back into view? Are there projects we should bring to the young engineers?

This meeting is a no-host event. Come and share a drink or a meal together.

Date: 18 March 2026
Time: 06:30 PM HST to 08:30 PM HST
Location: Zippy’s Vineyard, 59 N Vineyard Blvd, Honolulu, HI 96817

University of Hawai‘i Earns First-Ever IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award

The IEEE Student Branch at the University of Hawai‘i has been honored with the 2025 IEEE Regional Exemplary Student Branch Award by the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Student Activities Committee. This marks the first time UH has received this prestigious recognition. The University of Hawai‘i was one of only two institutions in IEEE Region 6 (Western United States) selected for the award, which recognizes outstanding student branch leadership, operations, and meaningful impact on students and the broader community.

Kristine Joyce Locquiao Named 2025–2026 IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Recipient

Kristine Joyce Locquiao has been selected as a 2025–2026 IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Recipient. She is the first individual from Hawai‘i to receive this prestigious scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students majoring in IEEE-designated fields who demonstrate high academic achievement, strong GPAs, distinctive extracurricular involvement, and a commitment to pursuing careers in the power and energy industry.

Congratulations to Kristine on this outstanding achievement!
