| The IEEE Hawaii Section will be holding its monthly Executive Committee (ExCom) meeting on Wednesday, May 7th from 6:30-7:30pm. The meeting will be held at UH Manoa Holmes Hall 244, with an online option available via WebEx. Dinner will be provided for $10 per person. Please give cash to Matt Sahara on the day of. Introduction to Geothermal Hawai'i |
| On March 5, representatives from UH, Puna Geothermal Venture, Geothermal Rising and Burns & McDonnell gave a presentation on geothermal energy at the UH Manoa campus. An overview of geothermal power generation was provided along with a summary of our unique geology in Hawai'i. IEEE IAS hope to repeat this "Geothermal 101" seminar annually. 68th Hawaii State Science & Engineering Fair |

The 68th Hawaii State Science & Engineering Fair was held March 31st to April 2nd at the Neal Blaisdell Center. The IEEE Hawaii Section gave out special awards to the top 3 Senior Projects grades 9 to 12 and top 2 Junior Projects grades 6 to 8 related to Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. This year we had 4 IEEE members volunteer to judge the Senior Projects Song Choi, Eugene Chang, Tom Brotherton and Michael Hirakami. For the Junior Projects we had 3 judges John Borland, Sophie Tang and Al Toda. Governor Green opened the award ceremony by talking about his experience as a Westinghouse Science Fair participant and going to the National competition when he was a student many years ago. |

On April 12, IEEE Hawaii members had an incredible opportunity to go on a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Hitachi Rail facility, where we got an up-close look at the operations that keep the Skyline rail system running smoothly in Honolulu. From the state-of-the-art control center to the cutting-edge technology powering the autonomous trains, it was inspiring to see the level of innovation and engineering excellence in action. Big thanks to the Hitachi Rail team for hosting us and sharing insights into how the Skyline is helping shape the future of sustainable transportation in Hawai‘i. |
