Affinity Group Executive Committee (ExCom)

Officers of the Affinity Group shall include at least a Chair, a Vice Chair, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. The Affinity Group may combine the offices of Secretary and Treasurer. (9.10,D)
Each member of the Affinity Group Committee shall be an IEEE member of Graduate Student Member, Member, Senior Member, or Fellow grade. (9.10,D.1)
Executive Officers
Chair
The Affinity Group Chair is the senior executive of the Affinity Group and is responsible for ensuring that the Affinity Group is engaging members by conducting informative local activities and events which meet the needs of their members. The Affinity Group Chair ensures that the AG is in compliance with IEEE Policies and local regulations. The primary role of an Affinity Group Chair is to ensure the development, growth, management, sustainability, and ultimate success of the Affinity Group in alignment with the Section Mission.
Vice Chair
The Affinity Group Vice Chair supports the Affinity Group Chair in overseeing Affinity Group operations and collaborates with Section leadership, Chapter Chairs, other Affinity Group Chairs, and Student Branch Chairs to choose meeting topics and design programs tailored to local members’ needs. At the request of the Affinity Group Chair or in the absence of the Affinity Group Chair, the Affinity Group Vice Chair shall chair meetings of the Affinity Group.
Secretary
The Affinity Group Secretary serves as the gateway between Affinity Group members and the Affinity Group, advocating for members’ needs within the Executive Committee. The Affinity Group Secretary is often the main point of contact for members and volunteers, responsible for disseminating official information. Beyond record-keeping, the Secretary oversees Affinity Group records, meeting minutes, officer changes, and committee reports. The Affinity Group Secretary shall report to the MGA department at the end of each year and such other duties as are assigned to him/her by the Chair.
Treasurer
The Affinity Group Treasurer ensures proper funding for Affinity Group activities, approved initiatives, and committees (both standing and ad hoc). The Affinity Group Treasurer establishes and oversees processes and policies to facilitate the activities of these subunits, ensuring proper execution and appropriate spending of IEEE funds.
Committee Chairs
Educational Activities
The Affinity Group Educational Activities Chair is responsible for coordinating local educational activities programs for IEEE members and developing educational programs to encourage the technological literacy of pre-university students. The Chair contributes to broader IEEE Educational Activities goals, which encompass promoting technological literacy, advancing engineering education through accreditation participation, and providing continuing education opportunities for electro-technology professionals worldwide.
Membership Development
The Affinity Group Membership Development (MD) Chair is responsible for retaining and engaging existing members, attracting new ones, and promoting membership elevation. The MD chair also participates in developing local activities plans, monitoring membership records, collaborating with volunteer leaders, analyzing membership trends, and coordinating membership exhibits.
Professional Activities
The Professional Activities Chair is tasked with developing, coordinating, and presenting professional programs aligned with the Affinity Group’s goals and objectives, guided by the goals and objectives of the Professional Activities Committee. The Affinity Group Professional Activities Chair must have a working understanding of the IEEE organization, familiarity with IEEE-USA Professional Activities, knowledge of professional issues of concern to IEEE and membership, and ability to communicate these issues to the membership.

Webmaster
The Affinity Group Webmaster is responsible for the maintenance and management of the Affinity Group website.
Public Visibility
The Affinity Group Public Visibility Chair is responsible for enhancing the visibility and reputation of the Affinity Group within the community and beyond. Responsibilities include developing strategies to promote the Affinity Group’s activities and initiatives through various channels such as social media, press releases, and community events. The Chair collaborates with different Chapters, Affinity Groups, Committees, and Section leaders to create engaging content and coordinate outreach efforts aimed at increasing public awareness of the Affinity Group’s contributions to technology and society.
Island Representatives
The Island Representative serves as an island resource for YP members and interested community members. Responsibilities include organizing and executing local events and coordinating YP activities for IEEE conferences hosted on-island.
