Eirini Eleni Tsiropoulou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of New Mexico. Her main research interests lie in the area of 5G/6G networks and resource management in interdependent systems, with emphasis on optimization, game theory, network economics, reinforcement learning, and modeling humans’ behavior. She has received five Best Paper Awards at IEEE WCNC in 2012, ADHOCNETS in 2015, IEEE/IFIP WMNC 2019, INFOCOM 2019 by the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Communications Systems Integration and Modeling, and IEEE/ACM BRAINS 2020. Dr. Tsiropoulou was named by the IEEE Communication Society – N2Women as one of the top ten Rising Stars of 2017 in the communications and networking field. She received the NSF CRII Award in 2019 and the Early Career Award by the IEEE Communications Society Internet Technical Committee in 2019. Her research is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Sandia National Laboratories.

Aisha B Rahman
Chair
Ph.D. candidate, Dept. of ECE, The University of New Mexico
Contact: arahman3@unm.edu

Our IEEE WIE Affinity Group has recently been rebooted, and Aisha B Rahman is excited to start the year as the 2022-2023 IEEE Albuquerque Affinity Group Chair. Aisha is a graduate student at the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the University of New Mexico. With a background in Wireless Communication Networks, she is now pursuing her Ph. D. focusing on Network Resource Management and Optimization through Network Economics. Before joining UNM, she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. She has an outgoing personality and would like to build a strong network of Women in Engineering with the goal of engaging more graduate students and professionals in WIE as well as increasing professional development at the student and professional levels.

Arianna Santamaria Penafiel
Vice-Chair
Ph.D. candidate, Dept. of ECE, The University of New Mexico
Contact: ari@unm.edu

Arianna is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of New Mexico, USA, and a part of the Performance and Resource Optimization in Networks (PROTON) Lab. She graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from UNM in May 2023 and started her Ph.D. with Dr. Eirini Eleni Tsiropoulou as my advisor. Her vision is to contribute to the design of the Next Generation Networks, i.e., 7G and beyond, by developing decision-making and resource management models based on Game Theory and Network Economics, and ultimately follow the academic path and become a professor after I finish my Ph.D. studies. During her undergraduate studies, she had been part of two main student organizations, IEEE Women in Engineering and the Hispanic Engineering and Science Organization (HESO). These organizations are of special importance to her because their main goal is to support underrepresented groups in the engineering community, both of which she is a part of. Specifically, by being part of the IEEE Women in Engineering, she collaborated in a team environment with other graduate students to identify potential speakers for the monthly seminars that are delivered in the IEEE Albuquerque Section.
